Developing sustainable, affordable, and eco-friendly energy sources to meet the needs of populations across the globe is a colossal scientific and technical challenge. Thats why INRS research teams are working on new materials to make energy generation and storage more efficient.
The research focuses mainly on electrochemical sources and applications and photovoltaic energy. Our researchers using their expertise to develop high-performance ammonia sensors for a wide variety of applications, enhance the performance of electrocatalysts, develop new electrode materials, optimize the performance of non-noble, iron-based catalysts, and design an electrocatalyst capable of converting nitrates into nitrogen.
Electrochemical sources and applications
Our research teams are improving on core components of fuel cells, batteries and supercapacitors, and energy microsources to make them cheaper, smaller, and more efficient. The components they are looking at include catalysts, electrode materials, and electrolytes.
Photovoltaic sources
Our researchers are working to harness the unique properties of nanostructured materials to develop new generations of photovoltaic panels. Carbon nanotubes, nanoparticles of semiconductor materials, and ferroelectric and multiferroic materials are being targeted to help develop new applications for converting and storing solar energy.
