Immune system disturbances
We teach the next generation of researchers to develop scientific, social, and technological innovations.
We find solutions through interdisciplinary research and industry or public and community partnerships.
We play an active role in Québec's economic, social, and cultural development.
Cancer, infertility, and ALS: How do contaminants and environmental factors affect the human reproductive, immune, and neurological systems? What role do stress and genetics play in the development of diseases?
Epidemiological research identifies harmful and beneficial health factor s — e.g., work environment, lifestyle habits, genetic susceptibility — and sheds light on the etiology of certain cancers and other chronic diseases, infections, and immune disorders.
Our research teams are studying various xenobiotics known to cause health problems or environmental contamination. The objective is to understand their effects on the human body. Our teams are also investigating how lifestyle habits, the environment, and genetic factors are connected to various pathologies.
Environmental factors, genetics, and the development of cancers
Research is focused on understanding the underlying mechanisms of various types of cancer; the regulation and expression of genes involved in oncogenesis, metastasis, and apoptosis; and the effect of environmental contaminants, including endocrine disruptors, on the development of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers.
Effect of the environment on health
Fetal development, infertility, and various pathologies such as neurodegenerative diseases are the focus of these studies. Our research teams study how contaminants, drugs, and endocrine disruptors affect the immune, reproductive, and neurological systems.
Epidemiology
Environmental epidemiology studies focus on the adverse effects of physical and chemical stressors on humans. Epidemiology sheds light on public health issues, identifying potential causes of cancer, diabetes, asthma, multiple sclerosis, and cardiovascular disease with a view to developing preventive strategies.
