How to survive and make a name for yourself as a scientific researcher

INRS, École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS),and Mitacs are pleased to announce Summer School 2013: Survival Skills for Scientists. This one-of-a-kind, innovative workshop is designed to provide science and engineering students and graduates from the two schools with the skills they need for a successful career in research. Summer school will be held April 24 and 25 at ÉTS.

The researcher’s toolbox

What does a career as a science and engineering researcher entail? What are the major challenges and keys to success? To answer these questions and many more, a number of experts including scientists, engineers, and business leaders working in a variety of fields (nanotechnology, space exploration, biotechnology, tech company start-ups, and scientific communication) will take part in lectures and seminars to share their experiences, triumphs, and inspirations, and explain how they make a go of it in their respective fields of science and technology. Topics on the agenda include how to plan a career in science and engineering; why you need a mentor and how to find one; the peer review system; science communication; funding; and science and ethics.
