INRS
We play an active role in Québec's economic, social, and cultural development.
INRS has topped all other Québec universities with seven awards in the 2013 Strategic ProjectGrants Competition by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). INRS placed third overall in Canada for total funding with over $3.5 million as well as for the number of projects funded.

This performance shows once again the kind of expertise INRS professors have developed in the fields of ITC, materials, and environmental sciences.
Funded projects
- Developing a new paradigm for broadband RF signal processing in wireless communications: Jose Azaña, professor at the Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Centre
- Using enzymes to degrade pharmaceutically active compounds more cheaply and effectively in waste- and drinking water: Satinder Kaur Brar and Rajeshwar Dayal Tyagi,professors at the Eau Terre Environnement Centre
- Developing better millimetre-wave reconfigurable antennas for wireless communication systems: Tayeb Denidni, professor at the Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Centre
- Developing a new generation of infrared subcyclic impulse lasers: François Légaré and Roberto Morandotti, professors at the Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Centre
- Controlling matter on the attosecond scale: designing a high-intensity harmonic-generating radiation source in carbon plasma: Tsuneyuki Ozaki, professor at the Énergie Matériaux TélécommunicationsCentre
- Developing new silica-based fibre-optics for aeronautical applications: Federico Rosei and Andreas Ruediger, professors at the Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Centre
- Optimizing polarized helium-3 production for scientific and technological applications: François Vidal, professor at the Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Centre
These NSERC Strategic Project Grants will enable INRS professors and their teams not only to contribute to the development and transfer of new understanding and technology, but also to train highly qualified workers in sectors that will play a critical role in society’s future.
