Working with <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/research\/professors\/roberto-morandotti\/\">Professor Roberto Morandotti<\/a>, the team is currently composed of the two cofounders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nonlinearphotonics.com\/team\/yoann-jestin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dr. Yoann Jestin<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nonlinearphotonics.com\/team\/piotr-roztocki\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Piotr Roztocki<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company proposes a unique and compact photonic system that could be particularly interesting for applications in the field of information processing and quantum communication networks, as well as ultra-secure information transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>Revolutionizing telecommunications<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Ki3 Photonics\u2019 technologies pave the way for the realization of quantum resource networks, enabling the generation, multiplexing and manipulation of photons \u2013 all with the same optical fibres widely used today. Photons can transport and process information much faster than electrons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The innovative solutions proposed by the start-up earned the third prize in the <a href=\"https:\/\/spie.org\/industry-resources\/industry-events\/spie-startup-challenge\/2021-spie-startup-challenge-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SPIE start-up challenge<\/a>, in the \u201cDeep Tech\u201d category. Participants had to have an optical or photonic technology or application that would form the basis of a viable new business, from two thematic tracks: health and Deep Tech. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cIt was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the potential of photonic quantum technologies.\u201d <\/p><cite>Yoann Jestin, cofounder of Ki3 Photonics<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>The Business World<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ki3 Photonics also won the People\u2019s Choice Award at the Quantum Bootcamp <a href=\"https:\/\/hopin.com\/events\/bootcamp-quantique-demo-day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">Pitch Competition<\/a>, sponsored by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/quantum-computing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IBM<\/a>. Organized by the <a href=\"https:\/\/quebec-quantique.ca\/en\/initiatives-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Quantum Entrepreneurship Consortium of Quebec<\/a>, this Bootcamp was dedicated to start-ups in the quantum technology ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe $10,000 prize will allow us to grow the company. We are considering applying to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mitacs.ca\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mitacs<\/a> program to develop our products in collaboration with INRS and a new student member,\u201d reports Piotr Roztocki, cofounder and doctoral student at INRS who received a <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/actualites\/deux-etudiants-chercheurs-de-linrs-decrochent-une-bourse-vanier\/\">Vanier Scholarship<\/a> in 2016 and the 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/news\/piotr-roztocki-wins-2020-paul-baran-young-scholar-award-for-his-innovative-work\/\">Paul Baran Young Scholar Award<\/a> from the Marconi Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/TeamKi3-1-1024x698.jpg\" alt=\"Yoann Jestin in a Zoom meeting with Piotr Roztocki.\" class=\"wp-image-64482\" width=\"512\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/TeamKi3-1-1024x698.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/TeamKi3-1-300x205.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/TeamKi3-1-768x524.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/TeamKi3-1.jpg 1106w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><figcaption>Dr. Yoann Jestin and Piotr Roztocki in a team meeting.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the competition, this program allowed the cofounders to attend high quality seminars on various topics related to quantum technologies, but also on funding opportunities. The team was able to access critical information for start-ups, while being able to connect with experts in this field of expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the company\u2019s other accolades, Ki3 Photonics has successfully completed and recently graduated from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.creativedestructionlab.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Creative Destruction Lab<\/a>\u2019s international program in the quantum section. It has also been accepted into the <a href=\"https:\/\/centech.co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centech<\/a> Accelerator Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis program started in August 2021. It has been extremely beneficial for the company, among other things, to refine our vision and value proposition, while being closer to the realities of the market,\u201d emphasizes Yoann Jestin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These various experiences have allowed the company to gain credibility with potential collaborators and investors, both in Canada and internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIndeed, through these various activities, we have been able to expand our network of contacts (investors, quantum technology experts, commercialization experts, etc.).
