She is also very active on the boards and committees of private companies and nonprofit corporations like Proxim\u00e9dia Inc., the Montreal YWCA Foundation, the International Women\u2019s Forum, and Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Nouveau-Monde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bell is a graduate of Coll\u00e8ge des administrateurs de soci\u00e9t\u00e9s du Qu\u00e9bec andhas served on the INRS board since 2002, first as an INRS graduate, then as a community representative. With her vision, influence, and communication skills, she has guided INRS management on issues of governance, risk management, and internal audits. Since 2009 she has chaired the audit committee, which plays a leading role in assuring proper oversight of INRS activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A renewed board<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The INRS board now has 50% new members since last year. Two-thirds are independent, hailing from government, scientific, cultural, and business backgrounds. The board has equal parts men and women, and counts among its ranks four members with degrees in corporate governance, a significant proportion. With their advanced training in best governance practices, this group is a clear asset to the INRS board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>New members<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Carole Boisvert<\/strong>, corporate director; <strong>Linda Labb\u00e9<\/strong>, vice president foraccounting, standardization, and disclosure at F\u00e9d\u00e9ration des caisses Desjardins du Qu\u00e9bec; <strong>Monique Lalibert\u00e9<\/strong><em>, <\/em>investment manager at Caisse de d\u00e9p\u00f4t et placement du Qu\u00e9bec;<strong>Suzanne Masson<\/strong>, corporate director; <strong>Luc Sirois<\/strong>, vice presidentand general manager for Quebec and vice president of consumer health for North America at Nightingale Informatix Corporation; <strong>Louis-Philippe V\u00e9zina<\/strong>, vice president and chief science officer atMedicago; and <strong>Christian-Yves C\u00f4t\u00e9<\/strong>,president and founder of Axis-Photonique were appointed to their first terms on the INRS board, as were professors <strong>Claude Boucher <\/strong>of the \u00c9nergie Mat\u00e9riaux T\u00e9l\u00e9communications Research Centre and <strong>Albert Descoteaux<\/strong> of the INRS\u2013Institut Armand-Frappier Research Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years INRS has become a model of university governance in Quebec and Canada with the adoption of innovative and responsible governance and accountability polices, thanks in part to the involvement and dedication of board members. \u201cTo meet current and future challenges in university governance, INRS has a considerable advantage\u2014the skills of a thoroughly renewed board with excellent outside members,\u201d stated director general Daniel Coderre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INRS director general Daniel Coderre is proud to announce the appointment of Mary-Ann Bell as chair of the university\u2019s board of directors.
