Co-authored by Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/research\/professors\/martin-maier\/\">Martin Maier<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/inrs\/research-centres\/energie-materiaux-telecommunications-research-centre\/\">INRS \u00c9nergie Mat\u00e9riaux T\u00e9l\u00e9communications Research Centre<\/a> and Navid Ghazisaidi, the book fills a gap in the literature on fiber-wireless (FiWi) networks, which are known for their exceptional robustness and information transfer capacity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mit.edu\/~medard\/medard.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">Muriel M\u00e9dard<\/a>, a leading researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), hailed the book\u2019s release, noting that the authors\u2019 pioneering work on bimodal FiWi networks is of value to scientists and engineers alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Wifi Access Networks<\/em> discusses the latest developments in next generation networks. Such networks have a crucial role to play, not only in future broadband networks but also in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hydroquebec.com\/en\/index.html\">Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec<\/a>\u2019s electricity grid, which will integrate sophisticated information exchange mechanisms to create smart grids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bimodal FiWi networks could also be a boon for the Qu\u00e9bec government as it implements the Electric Vehicles 2011\u20132020 Action Plan. A combined energy\/Internet network could be used to deliver power to electric vehicles at any time, anywhere in the province. \u201cBy combining FiWi and hydroelectricity, Professor Maier explains, Qu\u00e9bec could become an electric mobility leader in North America. Very few countries in the world are in a position to replace imported oil with homegrown electricity for land transportation, as Qu\u00e9bec can.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>About the authors<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>INRS University Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/research\/professors\/martin-maier\/\">Martin Maier<\/a> conducts multidisciplinary research on next-generation optical networks. In addition to exploring novel ways to integrate new optical technologies into existing systems, Maier is rethinking the role of optical networks to develop applications for smart electricity grids and combined fiber-optic\/high-speed wireless (FiWi) networks. He is also the author of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/gb\/knowledge\/isbn\/item1174023\/?site_locale=en_GB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\"><em>Optical Switching Networks<\/em><\/a> (Cambridge University Press, 2008), which was translated into Japanese in 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Navid Ghazisaidi holds a Ph.D. in Telecommunications Science from IRNS, where his supervisor was Martin Maier.
