The prestigious recognition from their peers acknowledges both professors\u2019 outstanding contributions in physics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The APS Fellowship, a great honour bestowed on a mere 0.5% of the society\u2019s members, recognizes the innovative research of Professor Morandotti in photonics and Professor Rosei in nanotechnology. Prior to the dual appointment, INRS faculty included a single APS&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aps.org\/programs\/honors\/fellowships\/archive-all.cfm?initial=&amp;year=2012&amp;unit_id=DCP&amp;institution=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">Fellow<\/a>, Professor EmeritusTudor Wyatt Johnston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The APS Division of Laser Science singled out&nbsp;Professor Morandotti\u2019s ground-breaking work in discrete systems and nonlinear optics in the terahertz regime, which places his work on the leading edge in the field of ultra-high speed communications.&nbsp;Professor Rosei\u2019s recognition in the Division of Materials Physics came for his world-renowned, pioneering research in advanced materials, specifically the physical properties of organic and inorganic compounds and molecular assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our sincere congratulations to both professors. INRS is proud to be home to elite international physics researchers. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Biography \u2013 Roberto Morandotti<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Morandotti_Roberto-1-580x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"352\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Roberto Morandotti has made breakthrough discoveries that have revolutionized the field of lasers and facilitated the transition from electronics to optics in telecommunications. He is a member of the Royal Society of Canada (2012), the Optical Society of America (OSA, 2011) and the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE, 2012). He is also Fellow of the Institute of Physics and senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He was recipient of the 2011E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship. Professor Morandotti has served as a committee member for several SPIE, OSA, and IEEE conferences and will be General Chair at the CLEO-QELS, an important conference to be held in San Jose, California, in summer 2016. He is a prolific author with over 500 academic journal articles and conference papers to his name, and has been invited as guest speaker at some hundred international conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Biography \u2013 Federico Rosei<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Federico-rosei-inrs-580x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"352\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Federico Rosei\u2019s work in material physics has led to scientific innovations and practical applications in electronics, energy, and the life sciences. He is a member of the Royal Society of Canada,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/research\/research-chairs-groups-and-networks\/find-research-chair-group-or-network\/unesco-chair-in-materials-and-technologies-for-energy-conversion-saving-and-storage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNESCO Chair on Materials and Technologies for Energy Conversion, Saving and Storage (MATECSS)<\/a>, and recipient of the 2014 E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship. Among Professor Rosei\u2019s many awards and distinctions are the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.consejoculturalmundial.org\/awards-education.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">Jos\u00e9 Vasconcelos World Award of Education<\/a>, given by the World Cultural Council; the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel&nbsp;award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2011); and the Herzberg and Rutherford medals for chemistry from the Canadian Association of Physics (2013) and the Royal Society of Canada (2011), respectively.
