{"id":18540,"date":"2015-03-13T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-13T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/inrs-professor-francois-legare-wins-the-2015-herzberg-medal\/"},"modified":"2020-11-26T11:35:42","modified_gmt":"2020-11-26T16:35:42","slug":"inrs-professor-francois-legare-wins-the-2015-herzberg-medal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/news\/inrs-professor-francois-legare-wins-the-2015-herzberg-medal\/","title":{"rendered":"INRS Professor Fran\u00e7ois L\u00e9gar\u00e9 wins the 2015 Herzberg Medal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Professor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/research\/professors\/francois-legare\/\">Fran\u00e7ois L\u00e9gar\u00e9<\/a>&nbsp;of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/inrs\/research-centres\/energie-materiaux-telecommunications-research-centre\/\">INRS&nbsp;\u00c9nergie Mat\u00e9riaux T\u00e9l\u00e9communications Research Centre<\/a>&nbsp;has been awarded the 2015&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cap.ca\/fr\/activites\/medailles-bourses\/medailles-recherche\/medaille-herzberg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">Herzberg Medal<\/a>&nbsp;by the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cap.ca\/en\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP)&nbsp;<\/a>in recognition of his outstanding contributions in ultrafast molecular imaging and the development of high peak power infrared lasers for high harmonic generation and tissue imaging using optical nonlinear microscopy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/NEWS_INRS-Professor-Francois-Legare-wins-the-2015-Herzberg-Medal_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"691\" height=\"416\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Research conducted by Professor L\u00e9gar\u00e9 and his team has led to new optical approaches for dynamic imaging. The team notably captured images of a molecular reaction at never-before-seen resolution. Another important development, frequency domain optical parametric amplification (FOPA), which offers simpler laser design and control over new parameters, is so promising that a new spinoff company,&nbsp;<strong><em>few-cycle<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;Inc., has been created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor L\u00e9gar\u00e9 also directs the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/research\/research-facilities\/find-a-research-facility\/advanced-laser-light-source-laboratory\/\">Advanced Laser Light Source Laboratory (ALLS),&nbsp;<\/a>the only research facility of its kind in Canada. His accomplishments in the ultrafast laser science earned him a spot in the renowned&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalyoungacademy.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Young Academy&nbsp;<\/a>(2014).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor L\u00e9gar\u00e9&nbsp;is the second INRS researcher to receive the Herzberg Medal, after&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/research\/professors\/federico-rosei\/\">Professor Federico Rosei<\/a>  won the prestigious award in 2013. \u201cThis great news speaks volumes about the \u00c9nergie Mat\u00e9riaux T\u00e9l\u00e9communications Research Centre.
