Falk<\/a>\u00a0of the INRS\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/inrs\/research-centres\/energie-materiaux-telecommunications-research-centre\/\">\u00c9nergie Mat\u00e9riaux T\u00e9l\u00e9communications Research Centre<\/a>\u00a0has received the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmbes.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society<\/a>\u00a0(CMBES) Early Career Achievement Award in recognition of the outstanding scientific contributions the young researcher has made over the past five years.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/NEWS_Tiago-Falk-receives-award-from-Canadian-Medical-Biological-Engineering-Society_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"522\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Falk has attracted note for his innovative research projects that harness the combined power of biomedical engineering and multimedia communications. His research on smart human\u2013computer interfaces has led to the creation of new assistive devices for people with disabilities as well as to other technologies, such as a low-cost method for diagnosing Alzheimer\u2019s disease. His achievements also include a method for detecting autism in infants and a new way to detect the signs of serious depression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recent inductee to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/news\/two-inrs-professors-appointed-to-the-global-young-academy\/\">Global Young Academy<\/a>, Professor Falk is a member of a rising scientific elite recognized worldwide for their achievements. He recently received a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/news\/inrs-professors-awarded-two-google-research-grants\/\">Google research grant<\/a>&nbsp;for research into automatic speech recognition. He also won the&nbsp;2015 Prix de Rayonnement Bell&nbsp;award for developing revolutionary mental health diagnostic tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Falk was presented with the Early Career Achievement Award at the CMBES annual general meeting on June 11, 2015, in Toronto, as part of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/wc2015.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering<\/a>.
