He earned this distinction for the quality of his proposed talk on different in situ approaches used to precisely measure the thermal properties of geological materials for geotechnical applications.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/NEWS_Professor-Jasmin-Raymond-recognized-by-the-Canadian-Geotechnical-Society_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"683\" height=\"411\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though his career is just beginning, <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/research\/professors\/jasmin-raymond\/\">Professor Raymond<\/a> is already well known as a scientific leader in the field of geothermal energy, a new source of renewable energy from the Earth\u2019s core, as his work on deep and shallow geothermal resources has shown. He is helping to advance knowledge of analysis and energy modelling and their geothermal applications, from building heating and cooling to electrical power production. Professor Raymond also acts as a technical expert for a Canadian Standards Association committee for the installation of Earth energy systems and for Geoscience BC\u2019s geothermal technical advisory committee. He also sits on the board of directors of the Canadian Geothermal Research Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the winner, Professor Raymond will be a guest speaker at CGS\u2019s next annual conference, considered the premier geotechnical conference in Canada. On this occasion, he will provide an exhaustive explanation of the methods used by the geothermal energy industry to describe subsurface thermal properties. He will provide information from the front lines on instrumentation, field procedures, and how to process and interpret the data needed to design geothermal heat pump systems in order to optimize costs.
