In fact, the physicist who has tamed short-lived lightening bolts is featured on the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.quebecscience.qc.ca\/fr\/publication.php?id=33720161\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">front page<\/a>&nbsp;of the January\/February issue.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This scientific first, accomplished at the INRS Centre \u00c9nergie Mat\u00e9riaux T\u00e9l\u00e9communications\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/en\/research\/research-facilities\/find-a-research-facility\/advanced-laser-light-source-laboratory\/\">Advanced Laser Light Source<\/a>, paves the way for innovative applications in micromachining, pollution control, and electronic jamming.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/NEWS_An-electrifying-breakthrough-by-the-team-headed-up-by-Professor-Roberto-Morandot_01.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.quebecscience.qc.ca\/10-decouvertes-2015\/10-Dompter-les-eclairs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">electrifying breakthrough<\/a>&nbsp;has sparked considerable interest on the part of the international scientific community, which has always dreamed of controlling the trajectory of lightning bolts. It also caught the attention of prestigious media such as&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/news.sciencemag.org\/chemistry\/2015\/06\/laser-beams-make-lightning-tunnels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\"><em>Science<\/em><\/a>,&nbsp;<em>Le Monde<\/em>, and the&nbsp;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/article-3133905\/Scientists-tame-lightning-bolts-laser-beams-Discovery-allow-strikes-directed-objects-buildings.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a><\/em>, to name a few. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Morandotti\u2019s research findings were published in the June 2015 issue of&nbsp;<em>Science Advances<\/em>&nbsp;in the article \u201cLaser-assisted guiding of electric discharges around objects.\u201d Researchers Matteo Clerici, Yi Hu, Philippe Lassonde, Carles Mili\u00e1n, Arnaud Couairon, Demetrios N. Chrisodoulides, Zhigang Chen, Luca Razzari, Fran\u00e7ois Vidal, Fran\u00e7ois L\u00e9gar\u00e9, Daniele Faccio, and Roberto Morandotti are the authors of the article.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2015 Discovery of the Year: People\u2019s Choice Award<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qu\u00e9bec Science is again inviting the public to vote on which of the 10 jury panel selections is the biggest discovery of the year. The People\u2019s Choice Award will go to the discovery that receives the most votes by February 18, 2016.
