The discoveries were peer-selected through a very competitive process. Under these circumstances, having two breakthroughs into the top 30 is remarkable enough, but it\u2019s even more impressive that both were produced by the same INRS lab!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/NEWS_Two-INRS-breakthroughs-make-it-onto-the-Optical-Societys-top-30-for-2016_02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"666\" height=\"280\"\/><figcaption><br>Scientific advance in quantum optics by Professor Morandotti\u2019s<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.osa-opn.org\/home\/articles\/volume_27\/december_2016\/extras\/real-time_fourier_transformation_with_khz_resoluti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discovery in the field of optics instruments by Professor Aza\u00f1a\u2019s group<\/a>&nbsp;paves the way for novel applications in fields such as high-precision metrology and high-speed analysis. The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.osa-opn.org\/home\/articles\/volume_27\/december_2016\/extras\/on-chip_quantum_frequency_combs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scientific advance in quantum optics by Professor Morandotti\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;team makes it possible to generate a wide range of complex quantum states for optical communication, with applications in information processing and spectroscopy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both these breakthroughs were produced by INRS\u2019s ultra-high-speed light manipulation laboratory (LULMAN), headed up by professors Morandotti and Aza\u00f1a, who are also Fellows of the Optical Society.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations to these two researchers in photonics for this historic first for INRS!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two scientific breakthroughs by the teams of professors&nbsp;Roberto Morandotti&nbsp;and&nbsp;Jos\u00e9 Aza\u00f1a&nbsp;of Centre \u00c9nergie Mat\u00e9riaux T\u00e9l\u00e9communications, INRS, have made it onto the Optical Society\u2019s list of the 30 most exciting new discoveries in optics and photonics in 2016.
