This is the key question <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucs.dev.inrs.ca\/christian-poirier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christian Poirier<\/a> and his team from INRS\u2019 Urbanisation Culture Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Research Centre examined in their study <a href=\"http:\/\/espace.dev.inrs.ca\/4902\/1\/poirier-2016-lecteur.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Le lecteur francophone au Canada \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e8re du num\u00e9rique<\/em><\/a>.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/actualites\/cpoirier-rapport-livre.jpg\" style=\"width: 640px; height: 396px;\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>This was one of the first qualitative studies on reading habits. The interviews carried out revealed a variety of reader backgrounds and \u201cwhat books and reading represent in readers\u2019 daily lives.\u201d<\/div>\n<h5>Key points<\/h5>\n<div>The following are some of the study\u2019s findings:<\/div>\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n<li>Books are thought of as learning tools, a way to relax and escape, an essential part of a person, and a source of freedom.<\/li>\n<li>There are some very voracious readers who read over 50 books per year.<\/li>\n<li>A person\u2019s interest in reading develops throughout childhood and adolescence, with family and school playing a major role.<\/li>\n<li>Price is a major consideration when buying books.<\/li>\n<li>Practicality is one of the main factors behind the choice of e-books.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Avenues for exploration<\/h5>\n<div>The study\u2019s authors identified other themes that are worth looking into further, such as analyzing activities organized by bookstores and libraries, researching the motivations and reading habits of under 18 years-old, and examining aspects such as education and income.
