The academy, which has over 3,500 members, promotes research and education in all disciplines of scholarly pursuit. Academia Europaea welcomed the INRS professor to its ranks in recognition of his outstanding achievements in research.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/actualites-images\/centre_emt\/federico_Rosei__0132.jpg\" style=\"width: 640px; height: 427px;\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Founded in 1988, the non-governmental association brings together experts in the natural and social sciences. The aim of the Academy is to promote European research, advise governments and international organisations in scientific matters, and further interdisciplinary and international research.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"font-size:18px !important; color:#000; margin-bottom:5px;\"><strong>A look at Professor Federico Rosei\u2019s career<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Federico Rosei joined INRS in 2002 after earning a PhD in physics from the Sapienza University of Rome.\u00a0 In 2011 he became director of INRS Centre \u00c9nergie Mat\u00e9riaux T\u00e9l\u00e9communications. He has held the Canada Research Chair in Nanostructured Materials since 2016.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>His research program focuses on new materials for photovoltaic devices, nanostructured materials, and luminescent devices, topics on which he has published some 300 scientific papers. The quality and importance of his research, which has been cited more than 11,000 times in the scientific literature, has been repeatedly acknowledged by numerous prominent organizations.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>He is a member\/fellow of 21 national and international societies and academies, including the Royal Society of Canada, European Academy of Sciences, World Academy of Art and Science, African Academy of Sciences, Mexican Academy of Engineering, Canadian Academy of Engineering, American Physical Society, Optical Society of America, and American Association for the Advancement of Science.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>He has also received more than forty awards and honours in Canada and around the world, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aps.org\/programs\/honors\/prizes\/wheatley.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">2019 John Wheatley Award<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aps.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">American Physical Society<\/a>), the Herzberg Medal (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cap.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canadian Association of Physicists<\/a>), the Rutherford Memorial Medal (<a href=\"https:\/\/rsc-src.ca\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Royal Society of Canada<\/a>), the E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship (NSERC), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheminst.ca\/awards\/john-c-polanyi-award\/federico-rosei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John C.
