The\u00a0Observatoire Jeunes et Soci\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0(OJS)<\/a> of the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS) with the\u00a0Fondation Jeunes en T\u00eate<\/a>\u00a0unveiled today the first portrait of the wellbeing of Quebec youth aged 11 to 17 which is based on data from the most recent statistical surveys. The project\u2019s team wishes to make the data in this portrait available to equip and guide the actions of regional and provincial organizations.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Portrait of Youth Wellbeing in Quebec<\/a> is a scientific tool produced for the Fondation Jeunes en T\u00eate at INRS by the Observatoire Jeunes et Soci\u00e9t\u00e9. This exercise is a first for the province, especially since it looks at each of Quebec\u2019s regions. It measures youth wellbeing through the statistical study of six aspects: material conditions, education, physical and mental health, living environment and subjective wellbeing. The Portrait also highlights the skills acquired by students in the Master’s program in mobilization and knowledge transfer at the INRS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is the most comprehensive study of youth wellbeing in Quebec. The data is drawn from major surveys conducted by Statistics Canada and the Institut de la Statistique du Qu\u00e9bec, as well as administrative data collected by certain Quebec ministries\u201d   <\/p>Nicole Gallant<\/a>, full professor with the INRS and scientific head of the Portrait.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe found that for some indicators, youth are doing better than before, but the opposite is true for others. This portrait lets us better understand the challenges faced by Quebec\u2019s youth today in terms of their overall wellbeing, but especially their mental health challenges, which are at the heart of our foundation\u2019s mission,\u201d stated Catherine Burrows, Director of Youth Services at the Fondation Jeunes en T\u00eate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
