Developing new vaccines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Maude Cloutier<\/strong>, a master\u2019s student in the Experimental Health Sciences program, won the FRQNT Louis-Berlinguet Rising Star Award for her article <\/a>on the development potential of an effective vaccine against Burkholderia<\/em> bacteria, published in the Royal Society of Chemistry\u2019s Natural Product Reports.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maude was also accepted as a member of Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s Cercle d\u2019excellence as a rising star in organic chemistry research.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A groundbreaking invibility cloak<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Luis Romero Cort\u00e9s<\/strong>, telecommunications doctoral student (at the right on the picture), worked with Professor Jos\u00e9 Aza\u00f1a<\/a> to show the effectiveness of a groundbreaking invisibility cloak that can completely hide an object under broadband illumination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He coauthored an article on their findings<\/a> in Optica<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Promoting interspecies cohabitation in the city<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For her outstanding leadership and accomplishments, doctoral student Gabrielle Perras St-Jean<\/strong> has been awarded the 2018 Vanier Scholarship. As part of her PhD in Urban Studies, she studies citizen responses to the animal presence in the city. Typically represented as an anthropocentric space, the city is nevertheless the scene of increasingly complex interspecies relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By contributing to the visibility of different forms of citizen engagement with non-human life, her work aims to improve the cohabitation between humans and animals within urbanized spaces.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n

Windows that absorb solar energy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Winner of the 2018 Louis Berlinguet Star Award, energy and materials science doctoral student Shengyun Huang<\/strong> has designed a type of transparent electrode<\/a> that will help significantly improve the performance of smart windows and other optoelectronic systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His work<\/a> was published in the journal Advanced Energy Materials<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Revolutionizing physics<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Energy and Material Science PhD Samuel Beaulieu<\/strong> was awarded the prestigious Banting Fellowship. In 2018 his work on the chirality of molecules<\/a> was featured in Qu\u00e9bec Science<\/em> magazine\u2019s list of top discoveries<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was presented with the Governor General\u2019s Academic Medal and an INRS Director General\u2019s Award for Academic Excellence at the 2019 convocation ceremony. He also won the French Physics Society\u2019s Saint-Gobain Young Researcher Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samuel is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Fritz-Haber Institute of the Max-Planck Society in Berlin, Germany.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The quantum revolution at our doorstep<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

PhD graduate Christian Reimer<\/strong> is the recipient of a 2018 Vanier Scholarship. While studying for his PhD in quantum optics at INRS, he wrote 16 articles in leading journals and 6 patent applications. In addition he won the 2018 CAGS\/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the nanofabrication of complex materials at Harvard University, United States.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n
