Ses recherches ont principalement porté sur les conditions de vie et de pratique professionnelle dans le domaine des arts, la diversification des goûts et de la consommation culturelle au sein des nouvelles classes moyennes, l'action culturelle des pouvoirs publics au Québec et au Canada, l'organisation socio-économique des arts visuels, l’inclusion des arts et de la culture en milieu urbain et l’impact culturel des technologies numériques. Titulaire sortant de la Chaire Fernand-Dumont sur la culture (2010-2019), il a également fondé le laboratoire/art et société/terrains et théories (l/as/tt) qu’il codirige depuis 2009. Guy Bellavance is interested in the issues of work and participation in the field of arts in relation to sociological theories of culture. His research has focused on the conditions of life and professional practice in the arts, the diversification of tastes and cultural consumption among the new middle classes, the cultural action of public bodies in Quebec, the socio-economic organization of the visual arts, the inclusion of the arts in urban settings and the cultural impact of digital technologies. He is the outgoing holder of the Fernand-Dumont Chair on Culture (Chaire Fernand-Dumont sur la culture, 2010-2019) and also founded the laboratoire/art et société/terrains et théories (l/as/tt: laboratory/art and society/fields and theories), which he has co-directed since 2009.
